Personal Information on Sachin Tendulkar

Family

Dad's Name : Ramesh Tendulkar
Sister's Name : Savitai Tendulkar
Brother's Name : Nitin Tendulkar & Ajit Tendulkar
Wife's Name : Anjali Tendulkar
Daughter's Name : Sarah

Tendulkar's Dream

Young Sachin had aspired of being a fast bowler. It was this dream that made him undertake trials at Chennai based MRF pace academy, but his small stature proved to be a major hindrance to his aspiring career. ( THANK GOD !!! else the WORLD would have been deprived of such a genius batsman. )
First step towards cricket
Tendulkar's sensational journey to cricket stardom sparked of when his brother Ajit made him meet Mr. R. Achrekar ( Cricket Coach ). Sachin failed to perform in the first go which made him very nervous but his brother's persuasion led Mr. Achrekar give him another chance.
Turning point in his career
It was his change of school to Shardashram Vidya Mandir in Dadar - close to Shivaji Park on his coach's advice which marked a turn around in Sachin's career. He says," I use to bat in four nets at one strech. Whenever, I use to get tired, Achrekar use to keep a one rupee coin on top of the stumps and say, "Anyone who gets him out will take this coin. If no-one gets him, Sachin takes it." Tendulkar till date contributes this technique in being instrumental for enhancing his concentration. He still treasures the 13 coins earned by him during the practice sessions.
Naughty Duo
Sachin and his best pal Vinod Kambli hold the World Record of 664 runs stand for Shardashram School in inter-school tournament in 1988. Tendulkar candidly admits that the total would have never assumed mammoth proportion had he and Kambli not ignored the man waving from the boundary with the coach's message to declare.
Tendulkar's Idol
Tendulkar's idol is the American Tennis superstar-John McEnore. During his young age, he argued and fought for McEnore with his colony friends who supported Swedish Bjorn Borg. Sachin sported a head-band, sweat-band and a tennis racquet showing his staunch loyalty towards his idol.
Family Quirks
Sachin's wife Anjali tends to become nervous while he bats, whereas  his brother has become so superstitious that he allows the family members to only watch the match recording.
His reactions to his dismissals
On pre-mature and early exits, Sachin likes to take out his anger somewhere. He prefers to be left alone, till he cools down.
God's Importance in his life
Tendulkar is a God fearing person, a staunch devotee of Sai Baba, Ganpathi and frequently visits temples during night when it's calm and quiet. He visualizes God in his parents. Religion to him is what his parents have inculcated in him, his upbringing and his way of life. Sachin strongly believes in the concept of re-birth, existence of Hell and Heaven. He loves celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi at home with his family and believes that it firms his ties with his loved ones.

Sachin Tendulkar and Endorsements
dilsedesigroup@yahoogroups.com
His first ad campaign
Sachin Tendulkar shot his first ad for Band-Aid which was a Johnson and Johnson product. Remember the ad where he plays cricket with the children in the backyard and when one of the kids gets hurt trying to catch the ball Doctor Sachin offers him a Band-Aid.

The first ad he shot with a cricketer
The first time Sachin ever shot an ad with a cricketer was for Boost. Sachin shot the ad with Kapil Dev.

More ads follow
Sachin's biggest ad campaign in his early years was for International brand Gillette.
He also endorsed Action shoes.
The Pepsi ad with Vinod Kambli and Azharuddin was perhaps the most famous and widely remembered one in his early years.

The contract with World Tel
Sachin Tendulkar became a multimillionaire almost overnight after he signed a multi million dollar deal with Mark Mascerenhas' Connecticut based production company World Tel. International Management Group (IMG) had also bid for Sachin Tendulkar but Mark Mascerenhas and World Tel outbid them. Although there was no official disclosure on the amount that was paid to him, sources say that the five year contract starting 1996 fetched him close to $10mn (about 40 crore rupees). The contract with World Tel meant that Sachin would be promoted like a brand name and be used to endorse a number of internationally renowned products.

Thus Sachin became a cult figure and he endorsed a number of ads notable ones among them being the Pepsi ad which was a fitting riposte to the Coca Cola ad and that started off the Cola war between the two Cola giants. Coca Cola was promoted as the official drink of the World Cup, Pepsi then came out with the ad featuring Sachin Tendulkar along with a host of other cricketers including Allan Donald, Kambli and Azharuddin. The ad said 'Nothing official about it'.

He also endorsed products like Visa, Philips and MRF tyres.
In 1998 he was signed by giant international sportswear firm Adidas for yet another multi million dollar deal.
In 1998 Sachin also endorsed Colgate Total and it also marked the beginning of the toothpaste war with Hindustan Lever as they had already signed up stars like Saurav Ganguly and Ajay Jadeja to promote Close Up.
Sachin was generous in getting the Bombay Ranji Trophy team a contract with Today's Pens after their contract with Reebok had expired. There were rumours going around then that Reebok were keen on renewing the contract with Mumbai but Sachin did not want a rival sportswear firm to sponsor his state team as he would then have had to wear the Reebok Logo and he had already signed the contract with Addidas.

Humble Sachin
During a shoot for Pepsi, with ad director Pralhad Kakkad, Sachin refused to shoot unless the director changed the script. The ad in question here is the one in which Sachin is hitting the ball with a stump along with the jingle that goes 'ae Sachin aaya re bhaiyya'. This was the modified version of the ad. The original ad showed bowlers bowling to him and Sachin hitting the bowlers all over the park with a Fly Swatter. Sachin refused to shoot the ad saying "The commercial would indicate that I am bigger than the game." The ad was then changed and shown as Sachin practicing and hitting the ball with a stump.

Most memorable match
Beating Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground in the 1992 World Cup.
"First and foremost, Tendulkar is an entertainer and that for me is as important as any fact or figure. Too often boring players have been pushed forward as great by figures alone. For sheer entertainment he will keep cricket alive."

Barry Richards in Cricket Talk

"Neil Harvey, Sunny, all had the footwork and the judgement. With Sachin his stroke off the backfoot, particularly off the pace bowler, is extraordinary-- the next thing you know is that someone is picking the ball up from the gutter."
Richie Benaud in Outlook

"He is a genius. He has a shot for every ball. The only way to stop him is to keep him off strike."
Wes Hall.

"He is someone sent from up there to play cricket and go back."
Ravi Shastri

"Everytime I see him he gets better, his concentration reminds me of Sunny"
Ian Botham.

"For Sachin the balance is there. He is quick to complete his shot. He covers the crease much better than mere mortals. "
David Gower.

"I just get the feeling because of his mental strength that Sachin will be definitely the best player of his era and probably the best 2-3 of all time."
Greg Chappell

"Whenever I see Sachin play I am reminded of the Greame Pollock quote of Cricket being a 'see the ball, hit the ball game.' He hits the ball if the it's there to be hit. "
Ian Chappell.

"I'd pay to see him."
Sir Vivian Richards in Outlook.

"What we should do is enjoy Sachin's batting while we can. His wicket will be the biggest prize sought after by every bowler around the world. That has always been the case for batsmen who hold the mantle of 'best in the world'
Geoffrey Boycott in Outlook

"Sachin is a genius. I'm a mere mortal."
Brian Lara in Outlook.

"Sachin's a batting genius, on his day he can tear any attack in the world apart,"
Wasim Akram in Cricket Talk.

"He is the greatest batsman alive"
Martin Crowe.

"A true test of a captain is how he copes with losing. If he can come out of it without losing his positive frame of mind, he is a good captain, and I'm sure a positive player like Sachin will take this rough patch in his stride."
Akram on Sachin's captaincy

"I'm not suprised."
Sourav Ganguly on Sachin achieveing the 10,000 run mark

"Sachin wants to create new things, relishes raising the bar and clearing them."
Krish Srikkanth on Sachin achieveing the 10,000 run mark

"A complete cricketer, his range of achievements is mind-blowing and I know he has just warmed up for some greater deeds ahead."
Navjot Sidhu on Sachin achieveing the 10,000 run mark

Holds the record for the maximum number of one day hundreds. His tally of 28 ODI hundreds (and he is bound to get many more) will probably never be surpassed.

After the legendary Sunil Gavaskar's 34 test hundreds, Sachin holds the record for the second most test centuries by an Indian. He has at the moment has 25 test hundreds.

So 25 test hundreds + 28 ODI hundreds makes it 53 international hundreds which is the most by any player past or present.

He has also won the maximum number number of man of the match awards in ODI's. His tally of 38 man of the match awards comfortably beats Sir Vivian Richards's tally of 25. To add to that he also has 8 man of the match awards in Test cricket.
Sachin is the only player to have scored a hundred on his Ranji, Irani and Duleep Trophy debut.
Sachin holds the dubious distinction for being the first batsman to be ruled run out by a TV umpire.
Although Sachin is a great batsman, he will probably be remembered for being the most unsuccessful and unlucky Captain. He was also the first Captain to lose a test series in India after 13 years. This happened when the Indians were beaten fair and square by the Springboks in the two match test series.
He is also the only Indian Captain to lose 5 tests in a row.
He holds the record for scoring the maximum number of runs in all world cup tournaments. He achieved the feat when he scored a mammoth 523 runs in 7 matches in the 1996 World Cup.

He is also the first cricketer to have achieved the landmark of 10,000 runs in ODI. H has also become the sole member of the joint 100 wkts and 10,000 run club.
Tendulkar's 10,000:

Indore:
Sachin Tendulkar became the first batsman in the 30-year history of One-day international cricket to make 10,000 runs, following in the footsteps of another illustrious Indian, Sunil Gavaskar who had achieved the feat in Tests.

Tendulkar, who already had the highest number of centuries in the limited-overs game, attained this landmark on the way to his 28th hundred, his sixth against Australia here on Saturday.

The genius now has an aggregate of 10,105 runs from 266 matches, in which he has batted only 259 times, with an average of 42.63 and a strike rate of 82.60.
