Haryana Water Logging Important New Disclosures
Respected Sir,
It will shock you to discover that large area in Haryana is prone to water logging yet it "Conspired" to get substantially more waters than required for normal use.
Haryana even managed to get 56% of Yamuna waters leaving only 4.6% for Delhi state. Since waters are released on proportionate basis, in summer months when consumption is highest the availability declines to minimum creating water crisis in Delhi every year.
Nearly 50% of Yamuna waters are allowed to go to sea in the absence of any significant storage upstream though three storage dams are proposed for several decades. Availability of water to basin states could increase substantially with the completion of these dams. Thus it can be concluded entire SYL was a political mischief and a fraud on people of India in rendering large areas unproductive or lowering productivity in Haryana reducing water availability of waters for irrigating crops in Punjab.
Former Haryana Chief Minister petitioned in the Supreme Court for early completion of 15,000 cusecs Sutlej Yamuna Link Canal and also wanted Ganga waters in Sharda River at Chief Minister's Conference 2003, Chaired by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee where Chief Ministers of Punjab, Delhi and Haryana states were also present who were to release waters in Indus Basin and Ganga Basin for Haryana.
But unfortunately there are only three safe districts that have fewer than 25% water logging prone area while only two districts Kurkshetra and Mohindergarh with 99% and 94% safe area in June 2005 could be said to be unaffected by water logging and Gurgaon district has 87% safe area can't claim to be unaffected by water logging.
Water logging prone data is for June2005, before onset of monsoon and two years after Normal Monsoon Rains in 2003 is over 50%.
Water-logging is monitored by 2105 "Observation Wells" therefore these readings of water logging situation fluctuates with rain falls and water releases in canals.
In good or excessive monsoon season water logging could be far worse than indicated by the following table or towards the end of monsoon season.
Ministry of water resources and Haryana State Government wrong fully tried to extract Indus Waters in SYL and even wanted to link Sharda River in Ganga Basin to Yamuna Basin in Haryana.
They even lied before Supreme Court and Indus Water Authority Chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Please order "Judicial Probe" in to the matter and ensure water is productively and efficiently used, prescribe water use norms and review of interstate water agreements to avoid wastages and boost food productivity to obviate poverty and hunger in the country.
Thank you.

Ravinder Singh,
