These are some facts about HIV virus which should be known :-
(1) HIV virus dies immediately on exposed to oxygen, they cannot survive an oxygenated environment. That is exactly what makes HIV virus very difficult to study, because they die immediately.
(2) When the patient dies, the HIV virus dies along with him.
(3) HIV attacks the the immune system in 3 ways :-
(a) Direct killing of the T helper cells cells, also called White blood cells.
(b) Destroying the chemical called "CD8 cytotoxic lymphocyte" which is responsible for destruction of all the dead and infected cells.
(c)Increases the rate of a mechanism called Programmed cell death (PCD), which is nothing but a cell committing suicide when it knows it is no longer wanted. ( what a sacrifice !!!! )
(4) In whichever way it is transferred, it is mandatory that it is not exposed to the outside world in any form, else the virus is instantly killed. The 3 most common ways of transfer being :-
(a) Illicit sex (b) Direct blood transfusion (c) Mother to Child
(5) When the amount of CD4+ T cells in the body is LESS than 200 cells / micro litry, then that condition is called AIDS, where the patient is vulnerable to any kind of disease.
