Bollywood seems infatuated with ghosts. Not just is the industry full of ghost directors posing as producers, but most of our leading men seem to have played spirits at some point.

And the fad lives on. We've just had a ghost of the Mahatma in Lage Raho Munnabhai, Jackie Shroff dons pirate gear to play a seafaring ghost in Bhoot Unkle, and Amitabh Bachchan's going for it again in Bhootnath soon. Here's a quick look at our stars at their most haunting:

Shah Rukh Khan:

SRK as a ghost! Everyone was shocked when they came to know that King Khan would be playing a ghost in his Paheli, directed by Amol Palekar.

"My teeth are not soaked in blood," Shah Rukh had explained his character. "I don't have scary eyes and moreover I don't kill people." Based on Vijay Dandetha's novel Duvidha, Paheli might not have worked at the box office but was India's entry to the Oscars last year and Khan's mischievous, romantic ghost was much appreciated.

Paheli is the story of a young bride whose husband has left her behind to work abroad. A besotted ghost takes the husband's shape and courts the bride, played by Rani Mukerji.

"The beauty of this film is the story itself," Shah Rukh said.
