As per law of intellectual property rights (IPR) that data belongs to the company and you collected that data while working for the company (being on their pay roles) and you have no right on that data.
If you take that data, you are stealing the intellectual property of the company it is as good as stealing money or important information from the company. So just forget about taking that data.
As far as evidence of conversation on Yahoo! or MSN is concerned - yes it can be presented but lot of efforts would go in proving that the id belonged to you unless they map the same id with the IP address of your home pc etc. But I hardly think that the company would go that far in proving all this because of 2 reasons 1. Time and resource investments involved 2. Stealing of data has not happened at the first place. (as per your input)
Friends, Pls. never ever think that the work files and data which you have worked on in any organization belongs to you, the right on that information fully lies with the organization.
Whether you are leaving the company in good note or bad note it doesn't matter, you should never ever think of taking the data, work files, research report, and employee database along with you. (Get away by leaving no evidences
As far as your salary is concerned you can sue your company under labor law. If they havn't terminated you they are liable to pay you your salary but in case the termination letter in issued on diciplinary ground then I personally dont think they are liable to pay. But pls. check on this with your lawyer.

I worked in IT Staffing company where we create our own database by calling peoples taking their mail id & phone numbers from job sites (Dice & Monster). Recently this company close thr operation from India & me n mine other collegues take this data (phone numbers & mail ids along with us in pendrive). We all friends used to discuss this process of taking these phone numbers & email IDs backup in yahoo chat & unfortunately this yahoo chat is save in our system. Our employer close the office without letting us know & without paying us single penny & when we approched them he is saying he will bookus under cyber laws as he is having our all yahoo chat conversation & will send us behind the bars for seven yrs. Company has not provided any data or details. Pls suggest me how to recover money & safe guard ourselves.
Pls help us.
