//Dil Se Desi// Phd position

A joint project of Laboratory of Biophysics (University of Turku)
and Turku Centre for Biotechnology (University of Turku and Åbo
Akademi University) invites graduates to apply for

Ph.D. student position in Physics/Engineering

and

Ph.D. student position in Cell Biology/Biochemistry/Medicine

to carry out experimental research on the project called "Toward
nanometer scale resolution in live cell fluorescence microscopy
imaging". The goal of this interdisciplinary project is to achieve
nanoscale resolution with regular microscope objective lenses and
visible light using reversible saturable optical transitions. The
successful applicants will design the experiments and investigate
new concepts to enhance the spatial resolution of a confocal
microscope in live cell fluorescence imaging conditions. The modern
research facilities are located in BioCity Turku. BioCity provides
an excellent environment for interdisciplinary research and
collaboration.

The project is funded by the Academy of Finland and the positions
are available for four years (2007-2010). The salary for the
present post will be based on levels 1-3 (for graduate student) of
the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the
new salary system of Finnish universities, and the job-specific
component of the salary will thus be EUR 1 512 - 1 785 per month. In
addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on
personal work performance. To apply, send your application, a copy
of your CV and contact information for possible references no later
than 23th of November 2006 to the address below. Experience in cell
and molecular biology and/or in fluorescence and modern optical
techniques will be considered as an advantage.
